Eric Mathoho’s agent Basia Michaels has responded to the rumours suggesting that her client is seeking a way out of Kaizer Chiefs. The 32-year-old is reportedly unhappy because of his the lack of game time, having only made a single appearance since the season started.
‘Tower’ was brought on during the Glamour Boys’ victory over SuperSport United last month, but played only one minute before the referee blew the final whistle.
The snub of the veteran centre-back has led to speculation regarding the experienced centre backs future at Chiefs. Especially when one considers Chiefs’ current shaky defence, which is not showing signs of confidence, and looks like it could certainly do with Mathoho’s experience. Zitha Kwinika, Edmilson Dove, Njabulo Ngcobo, and Siyabonga Ngezana have been playing ahead of the former Bloemfontein Celtic defender, but without showing signs of being long term solutions.
The Soweto giants have conceded 17 goals in 15 games they have played, in all competitions to date in this campaign.
This website got hold of Mathoho’s agent who insisted that her client is still happy at the club.
“I don’t think rumours make sense,” Michaels told This is Football.Africa
Asked if Mathoho was willing to stay at the club, she said, “Of course, no doubts, I think we all know, we all understand how important Chiefs is [to] Eric.
“Eric is not just any player in that team, he has been there for the very long time and he has won numerous trophies.”
In 2019, Mathoho signed a contract extension with Amakhosi that would see him remain at the club until June 2023.
Having seen some of the club’s longest-serving players exiting Naturena this past window, will Mathoho be the next to depart in January?
