Ndumiso Mabena’s agent Machini Motloung has provided an update on striker Ndumiso Mabena, who’s been training with Orlando Pirates since parting company with Royal AM. The Buccaneers reportedly showed an interest to sign Mabena when he became a free agent in September.
He was also linked with various Premier Soccer League clubs including Sekhukhune United and Maritzburg United. The 35-year-old previously played for Pirates between 2009 and 2014, before he left the club to join the now-defunct Platinum stars.
His agent says the veteran forward is still with Ezimnyama Ngenkani, but insisted there are no talks of a possible agreement between the club and the player as of yet.
“He is still training with the club,” Motloung confirmed to This is Football.Africa.
“He is not on trial, he is keeping fit. We’re thankful to Pirates for him being given an opportunity to train and I think this is because of his relations with the club. He maintained good relations even when he moved away from the club. So it was easy for him to get an opportunity to keep fit “.
When asked what was the potential of a move back to Pirates, Motloung added, ”Anything can happen in football, because football depends on many factors. It depends if Pirates want him and if they present an offer and he’s happy with it, he would take it. But at the moment, he just wants to maintain his level of fitness so that when the right move comes, he’s ready. We’ve not spoken about the intention to contract, we haven’t reached that stage, so he’s just keeping fit. We have not been talking in terms of the contract,” he emphasized.
Last month Pirates coach Jose Riveiro responded to journalists, by stating that it’s up to the club’s management to decide whether they sign the free kick specialist.
Mabena who’s now 35-years old, will have to be something special to impress the club, considering his age. One will also ask if they still need him, especially in the presence of Kermit Erasmus who seems to be a solution to their issue in front of goal.
