Mike Maakab who is the agent of Cameroonian striker Souaibou Marou has given an update on the possibilities of the forward joining Orlando Pirates from Coton Sport. The highly rated goal poacher was recently in the Cameroon national team that participated in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Maakab was left annoyed by the manner at which Coton Sport officials leaked the financial particulars of deal to the media. There was a copy of the formal agreement between the two clubs circulating on social media which left Maakab livid.

Now Pirates look set to pull out of the race to sign Marou as Coton Sport has been seen to be unprofessional in the way they handled the deal.

“I can tell you, that statement that was released -was released prematurely because the deal hasn’t been concluded and we’re very annoyed, I know that Orlando Pirates is very annoyed because that’s not the way the chairman Dr Irvin Khoza operates,” Maakab told Gagasi FM.

“And obviously somewhere along the line, a source within the club or someone connected to the source at Coton Sport has released the details of the deal and that’s not how Orlando Pirates work. That’s not how we work as a professional agency. The deal hasn’t been done I can assure you that the chances are that the deal won’t be done since it was released in a very unprofessional manner. Right now, we are not sure where we stand and I will be engaging with the chairman shortly,” Maakab added.

The Sea Robbers have Zakhele Lepasa, Evidence Makgopa, Beinvenu Eva Nga, Kermit Erasmus and Kwame Peprah in their books as the striking force but none of them managed to find the back of the net on a regular basis.

In the current DStv Premiership campaign, Pirates have only scored nine goals after 13 games played thus far and it was inevitable that the club hierarchy will go into the market to look for a prolific striker.

Pirates will return to the league action with a block buster encounter against Mamelodi Sundowns on the 30th of December at Loftus Versfeld Stadium. That match is scheduled to kickoff at 15:30.
