Agent, Mike Makaab has commented on the future of his client Manqoba Mngqithi who’s currently a senior coach at Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 51-year-old coach was demoted from the head coach position to senior coach when Masandawana made a technical team restructuring after they lost to Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 semi-final second leg.

These changes also saw Rulani Mokwena taking over as sole head coach while Steve Khompela was promoted to be first-team coach.

Therefore, Mngqithi was stripped of his powers to have the final word when there was consensus in the technical team.

Makaab says they will start talks with Sundowns regarding the possible extension of Mngqithi’s contract early next year.

“We’ll be in talks with Mamelodi Sundowns, I would say early in the new year,” Makaab said on Gagasi FM.

“But I have to sit down with Manqoba first and see what his plans are.

“So, it’ll be an interesting time for him, he’s done incredibly well and he is a very professional man.

“In football, you have to look at all opportunities, one would consider those opportunities but it has to be for the right reasons.

“I’m a firm believer that you don’t try and fix what’s not broken.

“A lot will depend on whether Mamelodi Sundowns see Manqoba as part of their long-term plan.”
