AmaZulu Are Likely to Lose Two Key Players

AmaZulu could lose two of their key players on free transfer at the end of the current season if they decide not to renew their contracts.

The KwaZulu-Natal based club has already lost their club captain Makhehlene Makhaula on free transfer to Orlando Pirates after discovering that he had signed a pre-contract with the Soweto giants. Makhaula represented Usuthu on 83 occasions since he joined the club in October 2020.

Currently, Usuthu are at risk of losing Bonginkosi Ntuli and Thembela Sikhakhane at the end of the season if they don’t extend the contracts of the duo. Ntuli, who was on the books of Mamelodi Sundowns a few seasons ago has scored only two goals for AmaZulu in thirteen appearances this season.

However, the Pietermaritzburg born player proves to be important to AmaZulu whenever he’s playing. AmaZulu has scored 18 goals in the league so far this season with Gabadinho Mhango being the top goal scorer with four goals and Bongi Ntuli is the second top goal scorer.  However, it’s unknown whether Ntuli is the man Usuthu will release looking at the eight centre forwards the club have currently.

On the other hand, former Orlando Pirates defender Thembela Sikhakhane could also be on his way out at AmaZulu. However, Sikhakhane has been one of the regular players at Usuthu this season. The 30-year-old has missed only two matches for Usuthu in all competitions this season.

In December 2022, Sikhakhane was linked with a move away from AmaZulu with clubs like Kaizer Chiefs and Royal AM monitoring the situation of the versatile defender.

Both players started for AmaZulu in a KZN derby against Maritzburg United last week.
