Former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and currently SuperSport United assistant coach, Andre Arendse believes that Hugo Broos is the type of coach who has the ability and know how to take Bafana Bafana to major tournaments, and has hailed the Belgian’s man management skills with the national team.

Broos has made his name as arguably the best coach in Belgium, after he won many trophies with the likes of Club Brugge in his native country. However, winning the African Cup of Nations with Cameroon in 2017, is what got Broos known on the African continent.

Upon his arrival in South Africa in May last year, the 70-year-old was tasked to qualify Bafana Bafana for the World Cup and AFCON. Unfortunately, Broos could not take Bafana to the biggest  football tournament in the world, and has often come under criticism for that, and for his comments in the media about the standard of players in the PSL.

Though Broos is yet to help Bafana break their current AFCON misfortune, which put him under pressure, Arendse has hailed his managerial ability, and the effort he puts into his job as the Bafana mentor.

“I think Hugo Broos has done a fantastic job so far. And I know people can say that he hasn’t qualified for this and hasn’t done that, but it is a process,” Arendse told ThisIsFootball.Africa.

“We must not forget it is a process and he’s a man who’s got a vast amount of experience. He has coached at every level of the game so far in world football, and he knows what he needs to look for. He knows what he needs to do with players.

“You can see Hugo Broos, you can see by the types of players, the age of the players, that he’s building something and that’s nice to see.

“Like I say, we must give someone like him time. If we’re having this conversation again in three or four years, it’s going to be an entirely different one. We will talk about how well we’re doing as a nation, and how we’re qualifying for big tournaments.”

South Africa beat Mozambique 2-1 in a friendly match on Thursday night, and are currently preparing to face Angola on Sunday, 20th at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga.
