Arsenal are reportedly preparing a shock move for a Man United star ahead of a proposed transfer in 2023.
The Gunners have started the new season off strongly, winning 8 of their 9 games across all competitions and sitting top of the Premier League with 21 points. Arsenal’s only defeat this season came against Man United in early September at Old Trafford.
And it is now being reported that Mikel Arteta is plotting a move for the United star that took them apart on that day in September, Marcus Rashford. The English International’s contract is set to expire in 2023, with Football Insider reporting that Arsenal are weighing up a move for Rashford upon the expiry of his deal.
The Red Devils do have the option to extend Rashford’s contract for another year but have not yet done so. Understandable given the forward’s form over the last few seasons.
However, new manager Erik Ten Hag seems to have gotten more out of Rashford at the start of this season, with the player already scoring 3 and assisting a further 2 from United’s opening 7 fixtures.
Rashford has been extremely pivotal in United’s games against fellow ‘big six’ clubs, with his pace on the counter attack proving to be especially damaging. The England International grabbed two goals and an assist against Arsenal, as well as a goal against Liverpool in the Red Devil’s first win of the season.
Rashford’s form this season has seen him be one of the first names on Erik Ten Hag’s team sheet, starting every one of United’s Premier League games this season, ahead of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Despite Arsenal having the second-best attack in the league this season so far, scoring 20 goals, Mikel Arteta is clearly planning to further bolster his attack after the summer arrival of Gabriel Jesus. Rashford would be a sound addition to the Arsenal frontline, adding more explosiveness to an already dynamic attack.
