Bafana Bafana head coach, Hugo Broos has voiced his satisfaction, following a 2-1 victory over Mozambique on Thursday night at the Mbombela Stadium. South Africa trailed 1-0 the whole first half, and were struggling to deal with the speed of Mozambique, who looked dangerous when they had the ball.

Bongokuhle Hlongwane bagged a brace in the second half to inspire Bafana Bafana to their third consecutive win.

Broos, who’s known for easily spotting imperfections in his team, surprisingly said his side was not bad in the first half. He also expressed his satisfaction with the way Bafana Bafana played on the day.

“I have to say that I’m very satisfied, I’m very proud of my team,” Broos told SABC Sports TV after the game.

“We had I think ten chances, we played good football, the opponents had one chance and we gave the other one in the beginning. Two mistakes from our side but the way they [Bafana] took the game in the hands, they dominated today. I’m very pleased.”

Asked what he told his team during the half-time break, as they came back a different team from what they were in the first half, Broos said, “I just asked the boys to go on and play, we didn’t play bad [in the first half], certainly not.

“But we played against an opponent who was very, very close to the goal and had a very quick counter [attack], they tried to be dangerous but we controlled it.

“I said to them, ‘just go on, play, let the ball go, don’t run too much with the ball, you can win that game’ and we won.”

On Sunday, South Africa will welcome Angola in the second international friendly at the Mbombela Stadium with kick-off set for 14:30.
