Goal keeper, Andre Onana has been removed completely from Cameroon’s squad for their clash with Serbia, due to disciplinary reasons.
The ball-playing goal keeper started Cameroon’s first game against Switzerland but didn’t feature at all in their matchday squad following a fall out with Head Coach Rigobert Song. The disagreement was to do with to Onana’s style of play with Song keen to have a more traditional goalkeeper guarding the sticks.
Because of this, the Italian based shot stopper has been dropped for Devis Epassy, a goal keeper with only five caps to his name. The 26-year-old was banned for a year in 2021 for a doping violation, making it a difficult time recently.
Onana served about nine months of his sentence but has always protested the decision, saying that he accidentally took one of his wife’s pills while feeling under the weather. Since then, he has put in a number of top performances for his new club Inter Milan, however this setback is just the latest in what has been a hugely challenging 2022.
He was also involved in a car accident while away on international duty with Cameroon earlier this year but came away unscathed.
