Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler may have to prepare his team without his talisman, Khanyiso Mayo when they play against the MTN 8 reigning champions Orlando Pirates on Saturday, 7 January 2023.
Eric Tinkler said that the player complained that he was in pain when he came off against SuperSport on the weekend. Mayo’s absence will be a massive miss as he has been instrumental for the Citizens in the first half of the Dstv Premiership season.
“He (Mayo) complained when he came off at half time that he was in pain. He is still busy icing the injury and will obviously only be able to assess him again before the Pirates game” Tinkler said after the game against SuperSport on Tuesday.

Khanyiso Mayo has bagged six goals in the 14 appearances so far this season for Cape Town City. The Citizens have been struggling in the league so far and are currently occupying 11th position with 16 points. These results could be said to be below the expectations of the Citizens.
With Mayo out, Tinkler will look to deploy Thabo Nodada to occupy the wide position or might look to play Mpho Makola. Cape Town City is currently lacking depth in their squad and that might be a problem going forward for the Citizens. Orlando Pirates will look to capitalize on that with the never-ending quality of players they have in their arsenal.
Both teams go into this clash losing their last games. Orlando Pirates played their last game against Dstv Premiership reigning champions and current league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. However, Orlando Pirates will look to turn this around this weekend.
Cape Town City, on the other hand, lost their last game in their own backyard. The Citizens were unbeaten in 7 home matches consecutively, however, SuperSport broke that record. This weekend they will look to avoid being beaten twice in a row on their home turf.
