The Carling Black Label Cup returns again this year but in a different format as four teams will take part instead of the usual two. Since the competition’s inception in 2011, this has been a pre-season cup match between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates with their starting line-ups being voted by fans.
This year, the fans got to vote for their favourite teams to take part and Chiefs, Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaZulu got the highest number of votes. As usual, the followers of the game also had an opportunity to choose the line-ups.
The Buccaneers are the most successful club in the competition having won it five times while Amakhosi have come out victorious four times. In 2018, the Carling Black Label Cup was cancelled due to the FIFA World Cup while in 2020 it was abandoned because of COVID-19.
