Chelsea are preparing talks with Brighton Hove & Albion boss Graham Potter regarding the managerial vacancy at Stamford Bridge following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel.
Other names on the list of managerial options include former Spurs and PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino and 3-time UCL winner Zinedine Zidane. There are also outside shouts for Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid.
The Blues have had a disastrous start to the season considering the quality of the squad off the back of a summer transfer window that saw them outspend every team in Europe. Despite gaining 10/18 points in the PL, Chelsea seem to have continued where they left off last season: playing unattractive football and being easy to beat. This culminated in a 1-0 defeat last night at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb in the UCL, which proved to be Tuchel’s final act in charge.
Current Brighton manager Graham Potter is in his 4th season at the helm of the Amex Stadium. During his reign, Brighton have gained the reputation of playing the best football outside of the traditional ‘Big Six’ teams.
The Seagulls have started this season strongly, currently sitting 4th in the Premier League and possess the joint-second best defence having only conceded five goals thus far.
Chelsea are set to make their move for Potter during the upcoming days with meetings reportedly scheduled between the Clubs this week. It remains to be seen whether Brighton would be willing to let Potter go given that he has improved the team both on and off the field, year in, year out. Furthermore, the results are tangible as the Englishman led Brighton to their highest ever top-flight finish in the 2021/2022 campaign, where the Seagulls ended 9th. Brighton will be desperate to hold onto him.
