Chelsea are set to hire Graham Potter as their new manager after Thomas Tuchel was sacked on Wednesday morning.
According to the transfer specialist, Fabrizio Romano an agreement has been reached between Brighton and Chelsea over a compensation package for Potter, worth a reported astounding £20million. Contracts are currently being drawn up as Potter has accepted Chelsea’s offer.
Potter had been Todd Boehly’s prime candidate to take over the vacant managerial role due to his style of play and his ability to get the team playing for him based on strong man-management skills.
Potter also has an eye for talent, playing a huge role in Brighton’s successful recruitment strategy in recent years. After losing players such as Ben White, Marc Cucurella, Neal Maupay and Yves Bissouma over the past few seasons, many predicted they would eventually succumb to relegation. However, Potter’s quality in finding bargains on the market that fit his system perfectly is what led Brighton to improve each season. It’s also a quality that Chelsea could massively benefit from given their spending pedigree.
The English coach made his way to London to have conversations with Chelsea, where it is believed that Potter wanted assurances given the risk that comes with being the Blues’ boss. Brighton have cancelled their weekly press conference ahead of this weekend’s fixtures to allow negotiations for Potter’s exit from the Club to continue, as the former Swansea boss is set to be appointed as new Chelsea manager.
