A Kaizer Chiefs midfielder is being tracked by his former coach, and he has been added to his wanted list for next season.
According to a close source, Phathutshedzo Nange the man in question, is on the Matsatsantsa Head Coach Gavin Hunts’ radar, having first worked with him at the successful and now defunct Bidvest Wits, and then bringing him to Naturena in season 2021/22.
The former Glamour Boys coach is keen to rope him in, if the deal proves to be affordable to SuperSport. Nange’s game time this season has been limited under Arthur Zwane, making only one appearance in the DStv Premiership and one in the MTN 8 Cup competition. Phathutshedzo’s contract is due to expire by the end of this current season, which means a deal should be done by Chiefs in order to make some money back, or they risk losing him on a free at the end of the season.
An exit seems on the cards, because the former Black leopards midfielder does not seem to be in the plans of the current Amakhosi head coach Arthur Zwane. When Njabulo Blom left for St Louis City SC, a football club plying their trade in Major league Soccer in the USA, the youngster Samkelo Zwane was given a chance and once again Nange was overlooked, even though he is clearly the more experienced candidate for the role. This has been the trend with Coach Zwane, who has opted to make use of academy players over some more experienced players.
The central midfielder’s best season was when he was playing at the Danie Craven Stadium for the Maroons, where he scored four goals and made three assists from deep positions. Nange was first linked with a move to Stellenbosch, but the deal fell through which involved a swap deal for Junior Mendieta. Unfortunately, the deal did not materialise, and with Stellies releasing some of their key players already like Ashley Du Preez, Zitha Kwinika and Rafiq De Goede, letting go of another key player right now would put them in a precarious position.
