Kaizer Chiefs are believed to have reignited their interest in the Golden Arrows attacker Pule Mmodi, as the January transfer window is fast approaching.

Mmodi was on Chiefs’ radar before the start of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season, but the deal fell through, as apparently both clubs couldn’t agree on financial terms.

Indications are that Chiefs are looking to bolster their squad in January, in order to give coach Arthur Zwane’s a much-needed boost. Mmodi has had an impressive start to the season, after scoring four goals and contributing one assist in 13 games played so far in the league.

“Kaizer Chiefs have revisited their interest in Pule Mmodi as you know there was a push from the club to get him from Golden Arrows in the off-season. Chiefs have been the biggest admirer of Mmodi, but they couldn’t agree on the finer details in their previous chase for his signature. With Chiefs struggling for sufficient options on attack, it looks like they might be willing to up their approach to finalize the deal,” a source told ThisisFootball.Africa.

The 29-year-old Bafana Bafana international is a proven goal scorer, if his stats are anything to go by. Mmodi has an explosive pace and dribbling ability to go past defenders, and create goal scoring opportunities. Chiefs have seemingly run out of options in the right-wing position, and the Arrows talisman will come in handy for the Soweto giants.

The Naturena-based side welcomed new faces ahead of the new campaign, but none of them have made a real impact thus far. Chiefs signed Siyethemba Sithebe, Zitha Kwinika, Ashley Du Preez, George Matlou, Kamohelo Mahlatse, Yusuf Maart, Dillon Solomons, Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana and Edmilson Dove, all of whom have had various degrees of success without shooting the lights out.

In the current season, Chiefs have won six games, drawing three, while losing in four outings and are currently positioned fourth on the log. A start that will be worrisome to the Amakhosi fans given the club’s resources and history.
