Former Moroka Swallows legend Andries Mpondo has insisted that things are going to change at Kaizer Chiefs under coach Arthur Zwane, highlighting the way Chiefs are promoting young players.
Amakhosi promoted three players from their reserve side, two midfielders in Mduduzi Tshabalala and Samkelo Zwane as well as striker Wandile Duba in the second round of the current DStv Premiership campaign.
According to Mpondo, the talented crop of young talent has proven crucial to reviving Chiefs’ fortunes this season and they join with the likes of Nkosingiphile Ngcobo in securing the future success of Chiefs.
Mpondo, who played for Swallows for his entire career, says that Arthur Zwane is the best coach these young players could ask for and that with Zwane and these youngsters, chiefs have a good chance of bringing back the trophy days of the Glamour Boys.
“According to me, Zwane will revive Kaizer Chiefs and bring back the glory days with these young players he’s promoting from MDC,” Mpondo told Thisisfootball.Africa.
” He must be given enough of a chance. He has promoted 4 or 5 young players and as soon as these boys start gaining experience, Chiefs will get back to their winning ways. They will get back to a winning mentality.
“These young players are doing well. They just need senior players to guide and support them. Arthur has saved a lot of money for Chiefs. Instead of going out to buy players, he promoted good young boys.”
Chaka Chaka, as Mpondo was known during his playing times, has also highlighted that Chiefs’ management should not try to bring in unknown players from just anywhere while they have such promising young players at their disposal.
“Management should not sign players because of just signing someone. Sometimes Chiefs sign players who are not better than the ones from reserve and youth teams,”
“Our teams must not go to Africa to sign a striker who is not better than the strikers in the MDC team. Let’s give our young boys a chance to grow. At least Arthur believes in these young players. I hope Chiefs will give him a chance to revive the team.”
Meanwhile, media reports indicate that Chiefs will sign a Congolese player Christian Saile Basomboli from Nchanga Rangers this week. Basomboli has been training with the club for the past three weeks.
