Chiefs withdraw Interest in SuperSport Defender

Chiefs drop interest in Fleurs due to huge transfer fee.

Kaizer Chiefs has withdrawn their interest in young Luke Fleurs. The SuperSport United defender is the reigning young player of the season award winner. The influential 22 year old has made 67 appearances for the club. The South African under 23 international was offered three times more than what he is currently earning at Supersport United by Kaizer Chiefs, as reported by IDiski Times.

Luke Fleurs, the Ubuntu Football graduate, has since agreed to a new contract with Matsatsantsa, warding off interest from the big boys. Due to this, Amakhosi moved swiftly for his teammate Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, getting him to sign a pre-contract in the process. The Botswana captain has made 14 appearances and scored two goals this season so far at the Tshwane-based outfit.

What we know is that Fleurs has committed to a new contract which goes beyond the end of the current season after Chiefs failed to raise enough money for his transfer fee at the time. Given this revelation, if Kaizer Chiefs reignite their interest, a transfer fee will be demanded by SuperSport United but then they will face more competition for his signature if they make another attempt in the next transfer window.

Luke Fleurs has mentioned that a move abroad “wouldn’t be so bad, and that after this season he’ll see what happens”. This could be the plan that the Matsatsantsa CEO Stan Matthews has for the young defender as he club would possibly get a bigger transfer fee for the player, as well as furthering his development, should he go to Europe.
