Chippa United have roped in two players to get them out of a sticky situation.
They have added a 28-year-old defensive minded player, Thabo Makhele, who joins from Motsepe Foundation Championship side, All Stars FC. He is set to reunite with coach Morgan Mammila, they worked together at previously known Cape Town All Stars, before the name change. He is the latest signing to bolster the hot and cold Chilli Boys. Despite being able to play in defence, Makhele is a versatile player who can also anchor the midfield. The former TS galaxy player was also part of the Nedbank Cup winning squad at the Rockets.
The second player that we previously reported about is Former Orlando Pirates player, is Meshack Maphangule. The 29 years old officially joined this past January window period but the delay for his registration had to do with a knee injury that has been troubling him. He is now fit to compete for a starting berth. The midfielder was not successful at Pirates, was then loaned out to Chilli Boys and later released on a free. His next stop was Pretoria Callies until he was recalled by coach Mammila.
Chippa have only won one game which was against Maritzburg United, in the last nine encounters in the DStv Premiership. Generally, they are slow starters with regards to when they score most of their goals, with 33 percent of them coming in between minute 75 and the end of the game.
The Chilli Boys also rank as the third worst in the league, in terms of their defensive record conceding 26 goals behind Royal AM (27), Stellenbosch (27) and Golden Arrows (30) being the worst of all. They struggle particularly away from home, with only one clean sheet on the road and conceding 16 goals, which is more than half of the total.
More changes could be on the horizon, with a technical change rumoured.
