Pretoria Callies have added to its backroom team with the appointment of former Kaizer Chiefs striker Collins Mbesuma as a first-team coach, Thisisfootball.Africa can reveal.
Callies struggled to score goals in the first 12 league games before the international break, the Zambian international has been appointed as a specialist in coaching attacking plays and positioning.
Mbesuma could make a huge difference in the Callie’s scoring department. In his memorable 2004/2005 season at Amakhosi, Ntofontofo scored 25 league goals and 35 in all competitions, and those 25 goals remain the highest tally to be managed by a player in a single season in the PSL thus far.
Mbesuma, who is regarded as one of the best all-time Premier Soccer League strikers of his generation, was part of the Pretoria Callies team in the 2021/2022 season, featuring in 12 matches. Unfortunately, he did not hit the back of the net in any of his appearances.
The 38-year-old has also represented the likes of Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, Golden Arrows and Moroka Swallows among a host of other teams in the PSL. He also played for England’s Portsmouth FC in league one.
The former Orlando Pirates striker is tasked to help the strikers in the team to start scoring. Callies sit on the bottom of the MFC table with only two wins, two draws and eight losses.
