Cape Town City have announced the arrival of former Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho from Danish first division side HB Koge on a three-year deal.
Gordinho arrived in the Mother City a week ago to complete his move back to the DStv Premiership. The Bafana Bafana international comes as a massive boost to Eric Tinker’s side who have leaked 13 goals in the league after 13 games played.
“Cape Town City is delighted to announce the signing of South African international defender Lorenzo Gordinho on a three-year deal. Gordinho will be eligible to play from the first of January 2023,” Cape Town City confirmed in a club statement.
City is currently languishing in the 13th position with just two points away from the relegation zone. The Citizens have had a turbulent start to the 2022/23 campaign which saw them win only three games, drawing four and suffering five defeats.
Gordinho came through the Chiefs junior ranks in the 2014/15 season and spent six seasons with the club before he was released in 2019. The 28-year-old centre back joined Bidvest Wits after being released by the Amakhosi but his stay at Milpark ended prematurely after The Students sold their topflight status to Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila on the brink on their centenary celebration.
The John Comitis-owned team will be looking to turn their fortunes around and to start climbing the table when the league resume at the end of December after 2022 FIFA World Cup break.
City will welcome Royal AM at Cape Town Stadium on the 30th of December as they seek to collect all three points. Kickoff for that match is at 17:00. Gordinho will be hoping to bring his Chiefs form to the table as soon as possible for Citizens.
