Dan Malesela for Swallows?

Dan Malesela

Suspended Marumo Gallants head coach Dan Malesela has emerged as a candidate for a coaching role at Swallows.

Malesela was suspended by Marumo Gallants in January 2023, after a string of poor results in which the club had not won a game in their last eight matches, after they lost six and drew two of those matches.

ThisIsFootball.Africa sources have now confirmed that the 57-year-old mentor has been offered to Swallows, who are expected to make adjustments to their technical team in the coming weeks.

Ernst Midderndorp, who has been in charge at the Soweto based outfit as head coach, has quit Swallows last week to take up a job with third tier club  SV Meppen in Germany.

Musa Nyatama who has been an assistant to Midderndorp has been elevated to the position of head coach, while indications from sources close to the club are that the management are keen to make amendments to their technical team for the season.

“Dan Malesela is one of the candidates for the coaching role at Swallows. Contact has been made with the club about him possibly joining the team, but it is still early days,” said a source.

The former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns defender has previously held coaching roles at TS Galaxy, Chippa  United  and Cape Town All Stars, and has made notable progress in his coaching career in recent years.

Swallows will be back in action when they take on Kwazulu Natal based outfit Golden Arrows on Friday 17 March at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.

That will be a big test for Nyatama and his technical team as Maswaiswai look to move themselves further away from the relegation zone.

The Dube Birds are not safe from the drop with only eight games remaining. Swallows sit in 14th position with a four points cushion over bottom placed Marumo Gallants.
