Dan Malesela – There are No Quality Players to Sign In January

Dan Malesela

Marumo Gallants head coach Dan Malesela, who is looking to bolster his squad, says it’s never easy to get quality players in the January window period.

Gallants have lost key players in Philip Ndlondlo and Miguel Timm who both joined Orlando Pirates this season and this has influenced Malesela to sign new players to compete.

However, the former Chippa United coach has claimed that he’s likely not to sign as there are no quality players to sign.

“There is no one available, there is no one of quality available, if there is  quality, we will sign,” Malesela told reporters after their 1-0 defeat to SuperSport United a week back.

“You see, this time of the year, it is difficult to find good players. Particularly if you have a club like us who don’t have a big budget.

“You won’t sign players because you are looking at players who say their contracts are ending, and if there is quality we can try, but we don’t see quality.

“We don’t have anybody of quality we can sign. We don’t want just to sign for the sake of sighing. We need to sign players that will improve our options.”

Malesela has also confirmed that he will try to overhaul his squad, as many players’ contracts are coming to an end at the end of the season.

“We will be discussing several players. We have got about 20 players whose contracts are ending at the end of the season,” he added.

“We will be discussing contracts with them before the end of the season.”

Gallants sit 15th on the DStv Premiership table, only two points in front of 16th placed  Maritzburg United. The two teams will lock horns at the Peter Mokaba Stadium today at 15h30.
