Former Kaizer Chiefs striker David Zulu says Njabulo Blom’s move to the USA is a big achievement for the player and Zulu is optimistic Blom will soon move to Europe. Amakhosi announced the departure of its development graduate midfielder Blom to the USA Major League Soccer outfit St. Louis City on Friday.
The twenty-three-year-old Blom held an important role at Chiefs in his defensive midfield position. Blom was also a fan favorite after a string of impressive performances in the Chiefs jersey despite not winning any major trophies in his three seasons stay.
Zulu believes that Blom’s USA move is a great step in the process of going to Europe. “Europe could have been much better, but I think also moving to the USA is a big achievement looking at their league and their national team,” Zulu told Thisisfootball.Africa.
“As good as he is, USA is also good, and it could be a good steppingstone for him to end up in Europe. Even though many players want to go to straight to Europe, I think that this he right way for him.
“It’s a great move for him, not many players get this opportunity, I applaud him for this move. It’s a big step in the process of making it to Europe.”
While Zulu is concerned that Amakhosi have lost a good player in Blom, he believes that Chiefs will find his replacement as they have a host of great talent in their development sides who are set to become the superstars of the future. He points out Samkelo Zwane as someone who could fill Blom’s role in the team.
“Blom is a versatile player, that is his advantage, he could cover many positions at the club,” he added.
“But I think it was his choice to leave the club and go to try somewhere overseas, which is good.
“However, I think the club will get someone to replace him. Hopefully, the management looked at it before they let him go. I hope they properly considered it how they would cover the space he leaves. I think Chiefs know that have a ready-made replacement in Zwane, so I don’t see a problem.”
