Despite winning their last two DStv Premiership games, Kaizer Chiefs attacker Keagan Dolly has told the media that their match between Amakhosi and Sekhukhune United is a big one for the club.
Kaizer Chiefs will be celebrating their 53rd birthday on Saturday since its formation in 1970. Chiefs hold the most trophies amongst all clubs in South Africa and are the most successful team in South Africa football history, in terms of trophies won since the start of the top flight in 1970.
Chiefs has been celebrating their birthdays differently. Three years ago, Amakhosi launched their 50th kit on the day they celebrated their birthday. Tomorrow the sale of tickets will be reduced to a cost of R30 for supporters who will be celebrating 53rd birthday with the club. However, a victory for the Amakhosi will be the ideal present for their faithful supporters.
During a media briefing that was held in Naturena on Thursday Keagan Dolly told reporters that Saturdays match against Sekhukhune United is a big one for Chiefs because it’s being played on the day the club was formed. The 29-year-old added that teams that come to FNB stadium wants to prove a point against them.
“It is the club’s birthday so it’s a big one for us; not only the players and technical staff but all the supporters as well. We are preparing well for the game and we’ll try our best to win at our home.”
“Every team that comes to FNB [stadium] wants to prove a point. Sekhukhune have a new coach. They play a little differently now but we are doing our own work off the field. We are analysing them and I’m sure we’ll come up with a plan to try to stop them and win the game.
“For us, we don’t want to give any team a sniff of hope at FNB. We want to win. That’s our aim for the weekend.”
At this stage we are not too concerned with the log standings, because we always say it’s about the process for us. We take each game as it comes and try to win every one of them so right now the focus is on Sekhukhune and the we’ll start thinking of other things after that game,” he says.
Both teams won their last DStv Premiership games but a victory for Chiefs could put them on third position depending on tonight result between Richards Bay and Mamelodi Sundowns.
