Former Moroka Swallows striker Andries Mpondo believes the former Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp will help Swallows to avoid the playoffs this season.
Swallows’ future in the DStv Premiership looked to have been thrown in doubt following a poor string of results under the then coach Dylan Kerr, who has since joined struggling Marumo Gallants.
The Dube Birds are currently mired in the drop zone with 18 games of the season gone and sitting second from bottom, putting themselves under severe pressure.
Swallows have been without a permanent head coach since the sacking of Kerr in September. Middendorp joined the club in December last year and Mpondo believes that the German born coach will help the team out of the relegation zone.
“This is a new Swallows, not the old Moroka Swallows, this is a new one according to what they say, but I do watch them, and I believe this season they will avoid the playoffs,” Mpondo told Thisisfootball.Africa.
“With them having hired an experienced coach, I think they won’t be in the last season’s situation where they had to play in the playoffs.
“It’s good now that they realized their mistake they were doing when they let Musa Nyatama coach the team while he was still a player. Now they realize their error and have gone out to get an experienced coach to lead the team.
“I believe Middendorp will make sure that they stay in the DStv Premiership next season, he’s an experienced coach, and he knows the job.”
Swallows sit 15th in the Dstv Premiership standings, they have won only four matches, drawn six and lost eight so far with 18 games played.
