Former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan believes that Njabulo Blom will be missed at Kaizer Chiefs after joining MLS club St. Louis City. Khan believe Amakhosi don’t have enough players in their squad to replace Blom.
Last week, Kaizer Chiefs announced that their academy graduate Njabulo Blom had been sold to US Major League Soccer team, St. Louis City. Blom’s contract with Amakhosi was set to expire at the end of the current season.
The Dobsonville born player penned a two-year contract with a two-year option to extend with St. Louis City. Farouk Khan believe the departure of Blom brings a huge gap in the midfield for the Soweto giants because Chiefs did not sign anyone to fill the void that Blom will leave.
“He will be missed. However in professional football this is a normal occurrence. Players will always look for opportunities to further their careers,” he told ThisIsFootball.Africa.
“Chiefs have not signed any players that can fill that void. If they signed [Andile] Jali or [Makhehlene] Makhaula, then you will sit with the age factor as are both 32 or 33 years of age. They could have looked at [Jamie] Webber who is only a 24-year-old but with good experience. However, I would like to see Samkelo Zwane given the opportunity since Chiefs are building for next season.”
In addition, Khan encourages Kaizer Chiefs to sign an experienced midfielder who can mentor Samkelo Zwane, as he has just been promoted to the first team squad this season and will need guidance.
“[Phathutshedzo] Nange and [Cole] Alexander are not regulars and both have not been performing. They should look to sign an experienced number six and let him mentor Samkelo [Zwane].”
Blom made 94 appearances for Kaizer Chiefs in all competitions since he made his debut in October 2019 against Golden Arrows. His new club is coached by former Kaizer Chiefs player Bradley Carnell.
