Argentina have been backed to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup by former Swallows midfielder Lefa Tsutsulupa, who insisted that the team and captain Lionel Messi deserve it more than anyone.

Tsutsulupa believes that the Albiceleste are favourites to win the elite world tournament. Messi scored to help his side to claim a 2-0 win in the last 16 clash against Poland last week to book the quarterfinals spot.

After a two-day break, the world cup gets back underway today with Argentina locking horns with the Netherlands at 21h00, and the former Bafana Bafana  player has backed them to lift the trophy at the end of the tournament.

“Not including African teams, if I were to support another team and want it to win the cup, I would go for Argentina. I think Argentina deserves to win it,” Tsutsulupa told Thisisfootball.Africa.

“As a farewell to football to Lionel Messi, I’d like to see him winning the World Cup. I think he deserves it. And this is the time right for him to lay his hands on it.

“But this is a world cup, whoever takes their chances and prepares the best for every game, they will win the matches. However, from all games that Argentina played, there were committed, and they can win it.

“And maybe the fact that they didn’t start very well it will work in their favor because they will want the standard of performance to be going up in each and every game.”
