Itumeleng Khune, is still very relevant and remains important to Chiefs. The veteran goalkeeper is still a very likeable figure and wants to stay active in serving the game.
Khune is left with less than six months of his contract at Kaizer Chiefs, but he will surely be guaranteed a year extension, as reported previously by ourselves and according to a source close to ThisIsFootball.Africa.
Goalkeeper Khune who is favoured to take over the goalkeeper coaching department for Amakhosi is still among the top shot stoppers within South Africa football. However, Brandon Petersen has since taken over the number one spot and kept his third consecutive clean sheet when they beat Maritzburg United in the Nedbank Cup.
“There is still no comparison between Khune and current Bafana first choice Ronwen Williams” says former Chiefs legendary striker Fani Madida who should know a thing or two about goalkeepers after spending his career scoring past them.
“Khune has the qualities of the greatest goal stopper of all time. Much more than his counterpart at Sundowns and its only age being what Williams can beat him on”, added the former Chiefs top scorer.
Madida believes that Khune is often criticised unfairly when his club concede silly goals but believes that those that criticise him, lack knowledge of the position, because a goalkeeper is only as good as his defence, which is the area the club are currently lacking.
Itumeleng has made nine appearances this season in the DStv Premiership, whilst keeping two clean sheets but conceding 10 goals in the process. The well decorated shot stopper has won two league titles and will most likely take up a position on the bench when they compete against Lamontville Golden Arrows on Sunday in the league at 15:30.
