Former Kaizer Chiefs Striker- Zwane should have stayed as an Assistant

The 4-0 defeat to AmaZulu is the joint-biggest margin of defeat in a PSL era for Kaizer Chiefs, another was also 4-0 versus Sundowns earlier this season. Zwane

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker, Shaun Permall says Arthur Zwane should have stayed as an assistant coach and not have accepted the head coach role. This is after Zwane coming under fire with Chiefs record loss against AmaZulu.

“I think they need to bring in a more tactical type of coach if they want to end the trophy drought. Because for me Arthur Zwane is still cutting his teeth,” Shaun Permall told ThisIsFootball.Africa.

“A club of the magnitude of Kaizer Chiefs, I think Zwane should have stayed as an assistant coach for a while. Then he could also learn from a more experienced coach, this would have been perfect for him. Then when the time is right, he could then take over.”

The Chiefs forward seems to have hit the nail on the head because Zwane has so far been unable to bring the best out of the squad. Adding to this, his in-game tactical coaching needs to improve, as well as struggling to dry up a leaky defence.

In addition, Zwane’s post-match comments speak of a lack of ownership and responsibility. Rather than stating that the team played poorly following their massive defeat to Amazulu, Zwane issued a response which annoyed supporters.

Chiefs are out of the DStv Premiership title race. They are currently 19 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, having played a game more. Some fans have gone as far as to call for Zwane to be sacked but there are still 58% according to a poll done on Twitter , that believe that “Mangethe” as he is known, won’t be fired even if they lose by a huge margin against Masandawana in their next match.

If Zwane wants to keep his job, he must aim to tighten their defence as soon as possible. Finding the right centre back combination will be crucial too, with Zitha Kwinika and Edmilson Dove making needless mistakes which has directly cost them valuable points. The likes of Eric Mathoho and Njabulo Ngcobo has been underused, the latter not featuring for six consecutive games now.
