Former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Thokozani Sekotlong has resurfaced at University of Pretoria, after parting company with Chippa United in the off-season.
Seketlong has been training with Tuks, with a hope of impressing head coach Tlisane Motaung and his technical team, to earn himself a contract. Although there hasn’t been any official word from the club, indications are that the Mamelodi-born star has done enough to perhaps be rewarded with a contract.
“Thokozani Sekotlong started training with Tuks last month, after being released by Chippa United and with his top flight experience, he’s seen as a player who can come in and add experience to this youthful squad,” a source at the club told this publication.
The Tshwane-based side marginally missed out on gaining automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership, after finishing runners-up to Richards Bay who were crowned Motsepe Foundation Championship winners.
Tuks have been the early pacesetters in the National First Division, and remain the only team yet to taste a defeat this season. Motaung’s troops won four games, and drawn in four outings in eight games played thus far.
The Students have seemingly brought together a relatively new team after losing their key players to the Premiership sides at the beginning of 2022/23 season.
Tuks lost some of their key players to the Premiership clubs. Amongst players who have left is Thabang Sibanyoni, Siyanda Msani, Mahlatse Makudubela, Etiosa Ighodaro, Keagan Allan, Wonderboy Mkhukhu, Sanele Barns, Harold Majadibodu, Luvuyo Phewa and Thakasani Mbanjwa.
