Gavin Hunt’s SuperSport United found themselves on the losing side to ABC Motsepe’s Dondol Stars FC, and Matsatsantsa boss was left unhappy with the way his side missed chances throughout the tie.
SuperSport fell to a first-round Nedbank Cup exit at the hands of Dondol on Wednesday night at their backyard, Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium after a shocking 2-1 defeat.
Matsatsantsa initially looked to be on their way to the Round of 16 – having taken the lead through Siyabonga Nhlapo early into the match. Their lead lasted just 40 minutes, though, with Relebogile Molefe equalizing for Dondol Before Kholofelo Monama struck to put his side ahead in the second half.
While recognizing his side were much better despite the embarrassing defeat to Stars, Hunt was highly critical of the way his side missed chances during the clash – a big contributor to their elimination.
“When you play this type of game, you have to score, to take the chances, and we didn’t do that,” a disappointed Hunt told the reporters after the match.
“There is no much I can say, but we had enough chances, and we didn’t take them. We give them (Dondol Stars) a credit. It’s a fair play for them.
“We had many entries around the box area, we had many that we could not convert. Our keeper just made one save the whole night, their keeper made quite a few, but yeah, fair play to them.
The DStv Premiership second-placed Matsatsantsa will have to shift their focus to the league match as they face Royal AM at Chatsworth Stadium next week on Saturday at 15h30.
