Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has provided injury updates on Lebohang Maboe and Terrence Mashego who have been out for a few months already.
Maboe has played four matches in all competitions this season so far. His last appearance was during the 3-0 victory against Royal AM where he had played only 17 minutes.
As for Mashego, he has made only one appearance since he joined Sundowns from Cape Town City in September 2022.
Mokwena has revealed the attacking midfielder, Maboe is going through rehabilitation currently but he did not confirm when he’ll start training with the rest of the squad.
“Lebo [Maboe] is still out with injury and is still working very hard on his rehabilitation so that’s quite a simple one,” Mokwena told members of the media on Tuesday.
The coach has confirmed that Mashego is back in full training with the rest of the squad but he’s not certain when he will play official matches because there’s competition in his position.
“Terrence [Mashego] is back on the pitch. He is on the green grass and he played a couple of friendly games for us. A little bit difficult because there’s some form of medical history with regards to the injury that he picked up last time.
“And, it’s a little bit delicate because you could go into a space of developing a chronic situation so we have to take it a little bit easy. He’s on the green grass now and he is working very hard to regain form and confidence and gradual fitness to be able to compete.
“Is not going to be easy because there’s very good players in that position who have done extremely well like [Aubrey] Modiba and Sifiso Ngobeni. We look forward to his return but we treat it very carefully because of the type of injury that he picked up and the history that’s related to that injury,” he concluded.
Mamelodi Sundowns are returning to domestic football on Thursday when they face Marumo Gallants in a Nedbank Cup last-16 encounter in Bloemfontein.
