Arsenal Legend Thierry Henry has ripped into PSG star Kylian Mbappe after the reasons the French superstar feels ‘betrayed’ by the Club’s hierarchy has been revealed.
Reports broke out in France on Tuesday regarding a break-down in the relationship between the 23-year-old and PSG’s board. As a result, Mbappe is said to already be looking for a move elsewhere, despite penning a new three-year deal in May.
Calciomercato reported that there are multiple reasons Mbappe feels betrayed by the Club, resulting in him wanting to leave. The media outlet state that upon signing his new contract, the World Cup winner was told Zinedine Zidane would become the new PSG manager and not current coach Christophe Galtier.
This comes as no surprise as Mbappe took to social media recently to state his preference of playing in a two-man strike force, like he does with the French National team alongside Olivier Giroud. The PSG star used the hashtag #pivotgang in an Instagram post, taking a sly dig at Galtier. Mbappe is said to be unhappy being used as the side’s main number 9 and wants to rather be given the free role, playing off another forward in a pivot.
Furthermore, Mbappe is said to be unhappy with the divide in the PSG dressing room, with there being a split in groups amongst the players, namely Neymar and Messi in one congregation, and Mbappe, Sergio Ramos and Achraf Hakimi in another.
The former Monaco star has already had a few spats with teammate and Brazilian superstar Neymar, with the pair said to have a very hot-and-cold relationship. Whilst on international duty with the Brazilian team, Neymar snubbed questions about his relationship with Mbappe, adding fuel to the fire.
This came after the two were involved in more drama at the beginning of the season, where the two argued over a penalty and had to be separated by teammates after an altercation in the dressing room post-match.
Arsenal and Premier League legend Thierry Henry spoke on Tuesday about the situation and had a dig at Mbappe for putting himself over the team.
“Nobody likes being exposed to what they’re not good at. He doesn’t like it, that’s all. But there is something bigger than all the rest: the club. But did they make him feel that the club was the most important thing? Where did they make him feel more important than the club?” said Henry on CBS Sport as part of Tuesday’s UCL coverage.
“I will talk about my own story. I didn’t like playing on the side at Barcelona. I hated it. But I had to do it for the team. I haven’t heard anyone say: ‘Oh, what a nice gesture’, to play on the left for others who had fewer internationals and goals than me. In the end, there’s only one rule: If the coach asks you to do something, you do it for the good of the team. And the team wins! If the team lost, I would have understood the debate.”
Mbappe started and scored for PSG as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Benfica at the Parc des Princes in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League Group H game. The Parisians host Le Classique rivals Olympique Marseille on the weekend in a clash between Ligue 1’s first and third-placed teams. Mbappe will be looking to add to his 8 league goals already as he plots a move away from the French capital.
