“I deserve to play more,” said Kapinga’s performance against Richards Bay

Rulani Mokwena was impressed with Kapinga's display against Richards Bay

In the absence of Themba Zwane, Lesedi Kapinga took over the Sundowns number ten role and made light work of it, producing two assists for Shalulile and almost grabbing a goal for himself.

If Kapinga’s proved one thing last night, it is that he deserves more game time.

Even his coach, Rulani Mokwena, judging by his comments after the match, was impressed with Kapinga’s performance.

“I think he showed that he is here. He had a very good contribution to what was a very good team performance. I’m very proud of him,” said Mokwena.

Perhaps, what Mokwena should have said is, Kapinga made the team’s performance look good, because he sure did, just like Themba Zwane does, being the conductor of the Mamelodi Sundowns orchestra.

“He knows how much I like him as a footballer and human being. He’s a very good person as well. Quiet. But he worked very very hard, for the team.

“And this is what we expect from everyone who gets to represent the club. He took his opportunity. I thought he could have scored one or two goals.”

Zwane is not at his best at the moment, let Kapinga play.

Lately, Themba Zwane is not at his usual best, he looks a bit distracted.

With the league title all but wrapped up, Mokwena has an opportunity to use Kapinga more, even if it’s just for league matches.

If he was indeed impressed by the midfielder’s display, let him show his appreciation by giving him more game time.
