Is Mdantsane the right signing for Kaizer Chiefs? – Fan debate

Chiefs

At the end of the January Transfer Window, Mduduzi Mdantsane was on the verge of joining Kaizer Chiefs from Cape Town City, when according to coach Eric Tinkler, the move dramatically broke down.

Despite the late drama in the transfer window, it is expected Mdantsane could join Amakhosi at the end of the season.

Mdantsane is a dynamic player. A goalscoring number 10. Different to what is available presently at Kaizer Chiefs and brings a wealth of experience to a side that is rebuilding.

The former Baroka FC captain who led Bakgaga ba ga Mphahlele to their first-ever major trophy, has fallen out of favour at City, starting most games from the bench. It seems as though Tinkler is shaping the City side to function without him in future.

Chiefs fans have now weighed in on the possibility of their side getting the midfield maestro on a free transfer at the end of the season. ThisIsFootball.Africa spoke to two Amakhosi fans who provided differing opinions on the matter.

“Mdantsane for me can fit in the number 10 role. I know we have ‘Mshini’ [Nkosingiphile Ngcobo] but he has his injury problems and when he is not around we kind of struggle to unlock defences. Also, Mdantsane is able to play in those pockets to break opponent’s defensive lines. He is good in tight spaces as well. His linkup play is good. He is also good with set pieces. That’s how I see him fitting in at Chiefs,” said Pule Jakkals, a Chiefs fan from Kimberly, South Africa.

A Chiefs fan holding a different view altogether is Khaya Nene. He feels Chiefs should not consider Mdantsane but go for Mfundo Thikazi at Royal AM instead.

“There’s Mduduzi Shabalala and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo playing that role already at Chiefs. If there’s a need for a number 10 or Mdu [Shabalala] is moving to an overseas club, we can replace him with Thikazi,” Nene told ThisIsFootball.Africa

It remains to be seen whether Mdantsane will finalize his move to Chiefs at the end of the season but with fans already sharing contrasting views on his importance or lack thereof, Amakhosi still need to catch up with Sundowns on the domestic front.
