Kaizer Chiefs confirm Njabulo Blom’s departure

Kaizer Chiefs has released a statement regarding the future of their talented midfielder, Njabulo Blom. The youngster has been the subject of transfer speculation since the news about his contract situation broke out in the media through his agent Rob Moore.

Blom is a product of Chiefs development and has been a regular feature in the first team for seasons.

He was promoted as a 19-year-old from the club’s reserves to the senior side in December of 2018 and after impressing the then head coach Ernst Midderndorp, which led to Blom signing a four-year deal.

“It’s a bittersweet departure because it’s no secret to Amakhosi faithful how highly we value Blom. He is the epitome of what our KCYDA has been able to produce over the last couple of years. This is part of the plan for us to unearth talent of international standard”- Kaizer Jr told Chiefs media.

“More so, we want to ensure that we produce talent that can go out to explore opportunities abroad. It’s great to see a young man who grew up in the system now being afforded the opportunity to expand his horizons,”

Blom is moving to Major League’s St Louis City coached by former South African International, Bradley Carnell, himself a former Chiefs player.

The former Orlando Pirates assistant coach is leading a newly promoted side to their first ever top flight football.

Carnel is not new in the MLS as he has worked at New York Red Bulls before and knows the ins and outs of the league.

Blom will be facing another South African in Bafana teammate, Bongokuhle Hlongwane who plays for Minnesota United, during the MLS season and both South Africans  will be hoping to impress.
