Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego Mashego has claimed that there is no PSL team that can challenge Sundowns in the title race and that the DStv Premiership reigning champions will lift the 2022/2023 trophy easily.
Mahoota, who won several trophies with Sundowns, including two league titles between 2013 and 2016 also places the blame on the other PSL clubs for not creating enough competition for Sundowns.
Sundowns have been dominating the Premier Soccer League for approximately the past seven seasons and have won the league title 12 times since 1996. Masandawana are obviously currently regarded as the best team in South Africa.
Speaking to ThisIsFootball.Africa, the club’s former striker heaped praise on the team and is confident that they will be the champions at the end of the season.
“Sundowns have a strong team, a forceful technical team, so they will always be on top,” Mashego said.
“If and when Sundowns lose the league, it will only be because they are not playing well, not because any other team is challenging them or is better than them.
“They have been a solo team for the past few seasons, no team has been able to touch them in the PSL. I can see Orlando Pirates are becoming stronger, but they can’t compete for the league with Sundowns.
“Sundowns will take the league this season. They have lost the MTN8, but they will come back wanting to take everything that is left.
“If they lose the league, it will not because of the competition, it will be because they themselves have been not playing well. No other team can challenge Sundowns, certainly not Chiefs or Pirates.”
