Katsande Advises Chiefs To Follow Barcelona Re-building Process

Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Willard Katsande has advised Amakhosi to follow Barcelona’s team re-building steps, which is to focus on playing young stars while producing positive results. Barcelona has had to let go of many senior players, including the world’s best player Lionel Messi, in the past two seasons. Chiefs have also parted ways with several of its senior players within the past two years.

In his latest “Kicking With Katsande” column for Thisisfootball.Africa, the Zimbabwean international and self-made business man believes his former club is on the right track in building a competitive squad, but he has urged them to look at how Spanish giants Barcelona are doing it to make supporters happy.

“The club just needs to find the right balance with a strategy of rebuilding. As you can see, they are trying to build a competitive team with young stars,”

“They have taken the right direction, having assembled a forceful team with young players whom I believe are learning to play in the big league.

“It’s even more difficult for them, especially when supporters want to see them winning every match, so I think they have to find the right way to win matches while still building the team.

“It’s like Barcelona, Barcelona is also trying to rebuild their team, but they are at least grinding out results while building the new team revolving around young players. So, that’s what I think Chiefs should do now, they must try to win matches while building, so they can stay competitive in the league as Barcelona are doing per my example.”
