Rooi Mahamutsa has found a new home outside of South Africa and signed for VTM in Botswana until the end of the season. The season campaigner is 41 years old and came through the ranks with Witbank Spurs, but made his name within the eight years at Orlando Pirates. Boasting three national team caps for Bafana Bafana, where he made his debut in September 2008.
In the 2016/2017 season he moved to Free State Stars where he played three years before short stints at Ajax Cape Town and TS Sporting respectively.
“Petrus Rooi Mahamutsa was here with the purpose of motivating the players as well as sharing his experience,” VTM FC Manager Boitshepo Littah Gaegopolwe said after his unveiling on Sunday.
“With what he displayed, on the field of play during training sessions we were left with no option but to sign him.”
He made his South African topflight debut when he was 26 years old on 30 August 2008 for Pirates against Golden Arrows. Mahamutsa left relegated TS Sporting at the end of last season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, but he kept himself fit by participating in amateur football. A well decorated individual with Pirates having won back-to-back trebles as his biggest achievement.
