Football agent Mike Makaab has responded to rumours linking Mamelodi Sundowns midfield maestro Andile Jali with the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. Jali joined Bafana Ba Style in 2018 after parting ways with the Belgium club KV Oostende
Jali, also known as, AJ captained Sundowns in some big matches last season when the club won the treble. In addition, AJ was among the biggest winners during the Premier Soccer League Awards ceremony last season. The midfielder won the MTN8 Last Man Standing, the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament and the DStv Premiership Midfielder of the season.
Makaab has dismissed the rumours that have spread in local football fraternity about Jali leaving Mamelodi Sundowns. The agent will look for other opportunities only if they can’t find a solution with Masandawana.
“There have been rumours in the football media that a number of clubs have officially approached us regarding Andile Jali, that is not true at all,” says Makaab during an interview with Gagasi FM.
“We are committed to sitting down with Mamelodi Sundowns and hopefully finding a solution for Andile.”
“And if we can’t, then obviously we will look at other opportunities. It’s not only local opportunities that are interesting for us, but also opportunities outside of the country,” he added.
“So, it will be interesting to see what happened in the next 30 days.”
The Matatiele-born player’s contract with Mamelodi Sundowns ends in June 2023. In other words, he can sign a pre-contract with any club he chooses in January if Sundowns doesn’t extend his contract by then.
Since his arrival at Chloorkop AJ has made 134 appearances for the Brazilians and won seven trophies with the club. However, the 32-year-old has played 682 minutes, which would equal seven and a half full games for Sundowns this season so far.
