Early exchanges between the two sides was more about testing each other out, with both teams trying to build up towards an early chance, but most attacks failed in the last third.
First chance on target came from George Maluleka, who made a run through the middle, and had a shot straight on goal which was easily caught by Brandon Petersen in the 24th minute.
In minute 41, Maluleka was again involved, playing Augustine Kwem in on goal, who went on to attempt a chip that landed on top of the Kaizer Chiefs net. Kwem thereafter received a long ball, and laid the ball off to Sphesihle Maduna who shot over from a good position.
Going into halftime 0-0, Usuthu had the upper hand due to the away goal that they scored in the first leg.
The second half forced Amakhosi to come out and to try and get that all important away goal that would send them to the final. Chiefs supporters were becoming understandably increasingly impatient as the game elapsed, with no real big chances occurring in the opening period of the second half for their team.

The closest they came was when Keagan Dolly bent a corner on goal at the back post in the 58th minute, which nearly sneaked in but was smartly cleared by Makhehleni Makhaula. There was a scare for Amazulu immediately thereafter, when Usuthu Goalkeeper Veli Mothwa scrambled the ball away from the resulting corner.
The Glamour Boys started to play with more intensity as the game grew older, but still did not look like they would break the Usuthu defence. AmaZulu seemed comfortable in slowing the game down and in managing the situation. Chiefs pressed forward constantly, but were unable to test the Usuthu goalkeeper meaningfully.
George Maluleka and company remained steadfast, knocking out his former employers Kaizer Chiefs, setting up a final against Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida stadium on the 5th of November.
