DStv premiership champions, Mamelodi Sundowns have announced today that they will be restructuring their technical team, and that there will be changes in the responsibilities and coaching positions of Manqoba Mngqithi, Rulani Mokwena and Steve Komphela.
The changes are apparently needed, due to their poor performances and unconvincing victories that the club has experienced for quite some time, according to the shock statement.
The statement reads as follows.
” Mamelodi Sundowns has a clear objective of becoming the number one football club in Africa and its recent average and lacklustre performances are contrary to this objective. Rulani Mokwena will take over the responsibility of Head Coach at Mamelodi Sundowns, Steve Komphela will be promoted to become First Team Coach from his senior coach position and Manqoba Mngqithi will take over the senior coach position previously held by Komphela. The goalkeeper Coach, Wendell Robinson will stay in his current position. These changes are with immediate effect.”
Statement ends.
This sparks a number of questions around the mood that will surround the camp, and particularly within the technical team. With the apparent demotion of Manqoba Mngqithi, it looks as if he is taking the brunt of the blame for Downs current poor performance.
