Maponyane Names Players Who Impressed Him at Chiefs this Season

Yusuf Maart of Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs legend Marks Maponyane has singled out the players who have impressed him at Kaizer Chiefs since the start of 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.

Maponyane, who played for Chiefs in the early 80’s, has named players who have raised their hands with outstanding performances under head coach Arthur Zwane.

“Forget the goal that he scored in the derby against Orlando Pirates, I think Yusuf Maart has been impressive for Chiefs, his hard work has impressed me especially out of all the new signings made by the club,” Marks Maponyane told ThisisFootball.Africa.

“I also like the boys Samkelo Zwane and Mduduzi Tshabalala, those boys should be thrown into the fray not only in the Carling Black Cup, but even in the league,” he added.

The 60-year-old retired footballer stresses that the youngers should be given a chance. But should only be brought in when the team is doing well, so that they gain confidence and adapt easily.

“We also have to be careful because I’ve been a youngster myself, and when you are that young you don’t just get thrown into the fray when the team is winning 1-0. Chiefs must win by high scores to bring the youngsters in. But they seem to battle to win by 2-0 or 3-0, and that doesn’t help the quality youngsters they have now. If they start winning, the youngsters will blend in nicely into the team,” Maponyane added.

Amakhosi have had a turbulent start to the new campaign, as they have struggled to find a consistent winning formula. The Naturena based side have managed to win six games, drawing three while losing on four occasions after 13 games played.

Chiefs were also knocked out of the MTN8 semi-finals by AmaZulu who subsequently lost the trophy to Orlando Pirates in the final earlier this month.
