Maritzburg United DStv Diski Challenge side coach Peter Petersen, has divulged that The Team of Choice has started a working relationship with Germany’s 2nd division Bundesliga Club, Arminia Bielefeld.
Some technical team members of Bielefeld arrived in South Africa last week to spend time with the KwaZulu-Natal outfit. This was after Petersen himself also went to Germany weeks before. According to the coach, for both teams, the trips are part of their working relationship, and the expectation is for it to become a long-term relationship.
Petersen says young players from Maritzburg, as well as from Bielefeld, will benefit from this new relationship, though it’s not specifically for the youth teams.
“We have got a good working relationship with them (Arminia Bielefeld), it’s a club to club relationship,” Peterson told ThisIsFootball.Africa.
“It’s a full club co-operation relationship. It’s the whole of Maritzburg United and Arminia Bielefeld, it’s not specifically for the youth, it’s a full partnership.
“But we’re actually going to discuss further on how we are going to take maybe four or five of our boys from our DDC side to Germany, and also they will bring some boys from their side.
“So it’s about for young players to gain experience and to learn from each other. We will discuss more with the chairman soon and then see where it takes us.”
The former Maritzburg right back has also revealed why the team sent him to go rub shoulders with coaches in the four times world cup winners country.
“I also went to Germany for two weeks just to learn how they do things, and to understand the Germany football culture as well,” Peterson said.
“So since we’ll be working together, I went there to learn their structures and to understand how they do things. I also went to different clubs there, but I spent most of the time with our partners.
“We want to know how they do things and for them to understand how we do things. In this way we can take some skills and try to implement them at our clubs.”
