Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids has insisted that it will be pointless panicking about his side’s lack of points. Adding that fretting would only worsen their plight as the relegation threat piles up.
The Team Of Choice have registered only one win in five of their last five league games and 14th placed Swallow’s Sunday win over Chippa United left them 15th in the league, just three points above the bottom placed Marumo Gallants.
“No, we are not panicking, there are still 27 points to play for in these nine remaining games,” Davids told journalists after their 2-0 defeat to SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium last Friday.
“Yes, we want to get those first three wins as quickly as possible in the period of nine remaining. We have to get those wins to get away from the bottom as soon as possible.”
But they face a difficult test on Friday as Maritzburg welcome Cape Town City on Saturday, who are fighting for the top eight spot this season. However, Davids remains confident things will turn around.
“We have got a home game against Cape Town City. We will keep fighting and we play our game and positive results will come,” Davids added.
“We are playing well, but we are conceding, and we can’t score. But we will get better. Now we need to bury the games we lost against Pirates and SuperSport and switch our focus to Cape Town City.”
