Mayo Downs Deal Not happening

Khanyisa Mayo has been a regular in the Bafana Bafana squad

A source close to Cape Town City says that at the moment the Khanyisa Mayo – Mamelodi Sundowns deal is not happening. This is due to the fact that there has not been a formal approach or a formal bid from the Chloorkop based outfit.

The 24 year old forward has scored five goals in all competitions this season, but guarantees in terms of game time will remain a stumbling block at Masandawana if a substantial bid is made.

“ The final decision will lie with the Chairman and the Coach,” said the source.

“If they make a formal bid, are City willing to sell him right now? I doubt it, but for now Mayo is not happening and there’s nothing from Sundowns,” concluded the source.

On the Sundowns side a constraint would be Mayo being unable to play for KaboYellow in the CAF Champions League, but the two parties have got a good relationship with regards to transfers in the past. If the money is too good to turn down, then in this event it would be hard for the Citizens to turn it down.

There has been murmurs that Peter Shalulile wants to leave but City are at the wrong end of the table, and keeping Mayo until the end of the season would be a sensible decision especially now that City have already lost a valuable player in Craig Martin to Orlando Pirates.
