Golden Arrows coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has reiterated his frustration over the transfer rumours of the club’s star player, Pule Mmodi who was linked with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates for the 2023-2024 DStv Premiership season.
After Mmodi’s impressive showing since joining Arrows in 2020, he looked in line for a move to one of the big three, including Mamelodi Sundowns in the current season, but the possible deal to join either of these teams didn’t materialise yet.
Many media reports emerged that after Abafana Bes’thende brought back another star in Ntsako Makhubela in January from the Buccaneers on loan, Mmodi would have had joined Pirates as part of the deal. However, the 30-year-old midfielder continued with the KwaZulu-Natal side.
Vilakazi’s comments came after Arrows’ 2-1 DStv Premiership defeat to SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Sunday night.
“I think I’m over that thing of Pule going, staying or whatever. I think I did mention that Pule is with us, and he’s committed to us,” Vilakazi said in his post-match conference when questioned by ThisIsFootball.Africa.
“If you look at his game, you can see that he’s fighting for the club. He is a good player, and he’s adding value in our team.”
Nevertheless, Vilakazi was quick to admit that the situation is far beyond his control, should the player leave or not.
“But apart from that, this situation is just beyond my control,” he added.
“But what I know now is that we are working with Pule, and we’ll finish the season with him, and that is what I’m interested in.”
Mmodi scored six goals and assisted once from the 23 games he has played in all competitions this season. He will be expected to help his side when they meet Royal AM on Saturday at Princess Magogo Stadium for the Nedbank Cup last 16 encounter.
