Former Banyana Banyana star, Portia Modise has called for Pitso Mosimane to be given a chance to either become a coach or the President of the South African Football Association (SAFA)

Pitso ‘Jingles’ Mosimane, a former player and the current head coach of Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli Jeddah is considered as one of the greatest coaches in Africa, and he is probably the most successful black football coach in the world.

Modise, the Banyana Banyana all-time top goalscorer, is worried that South Africa is missing out on what Mosimane can bring and change in the football fraternity.

Modise believes that with his vast experience in football, the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly mentor, could be the best President South African football could have.

“Let me ask you, do we really need coach Hugo Broos while we have Pitso Mosimane, if we are being fair? Modise asked ThisIsFootball.Africa in an exclusive interview.

“If our football is fair with no politics, if our football it’s about achievement, do we really require a foreign coach? If it’s not about politics, why isn’t Pitso our head coach or even the SAFA President?

“What do you want him to do to become our President? Must Pitso go and be the President in Ghana or Ethiopia? Should he be recognized in Ghana before being recognized here in South Africa?

“We will not be in a better shape anytime soon if our football is about politics. We still must fix our hearts and our minds.”

Modise has also suggested that the likes of Lucas Radebe and other former footballers deserve to be given a fair chance run football. Believing that it would go a long wat towards improving the game in the country.

“What are we waiting for, what are we waiting for, tell me what are we waiting for? Lucas Radebe is not getting younger. All our legends should have been better utilized in our football. Soon it will be too late as they are not getting any younger,” Modise insisted.

“The players that are coming after this class, I’m uncertain if they will have the same quality to compare to the class of Lucas Radebe. We are missing out here and if we think that tomorrow the national team will be better, never!”
