Mokwena on Sundowns Championship Style Victory

Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Rulani Mokwena has compared his side to Man City

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has narrated on last night 2-0 victory against Swallows FC at Loftus Versfeld stadium as a match that wins championships.

Sundowns haven’t  conceded a goal in four matches since Mokwena has been the solo head coach of the Brazilians. The victory against Swallows gave the Pretoria based club a seven point lead in DStv Premiership log table. However, Mokwena says the match was not easy for them despite Downs managing to score two goals.

“It was an important win against a very difficult team. We expected it to be difficult and it proved to be very difficult. These are the games that win you championships,” says Mokwena during press conference after the match.

After both teams went into half-time without a goal. Masandawana continued with their ball possession dominance and found the back of the net via Neo Maema in the 63rd minutes of the game. Four minutes later Themba Zwane extended the lead for Sundowns.  Mokwena added that his team played faster therefore  Swallows could not shutdown the gaps and spaces.

“We played a lot faster than normal. Which allowed us to arrive in the gaps and the spaces before our opponents. We found some complications with having a right footer on the left in the first half with Gaston [Sirino], we also moved Themba Zwane out because he was being man-marked, and that freed up a little bit of space inside. Sometime these things don’t work but that’s what we did and the players responded very well.”

Masandawana will visit a Richards Bay on Friday at King Zwelithini Stadium for the first time this season as they look to extend their lead on DStv Premiership table.
