Gift Motupa could be the next Mamelodi Sundowns player asking for a loan move away from the club if his situation with the team remains the same at the end of the 2022-23 season.
The forward is struggling for game time under Rulani Mokwena and his technical team and seems to be behind the likes of Peter Shalulile, Themba Zwane, Cassius Mailula and even Marcelo Allende in the pecking order.
A source close to Masandawana told ThisIsFootball.Africa that the player is unhappy with his current situation at the defending league champions.
“Gift Motupa is concerned with his situation at Mamelodi Sundowns. He cannot be happy with his lack of game time. That’s normal,” the source told ThisIsFootball.Africa
“The player is not even included in Sundowns’ matchday squad for the CAF Champions League, which is a concern for him.”
The 28-year-old has battled to break through at Chloorkop since arriving in 2020 from Bidvest Wits. He has featured in only two Dstv Premiership matches in this campaign, having last played for them in January against Richards Bay in a 2-0 victory.
Lack of game time resulted in some of Motupa’s teammates from Sundowns including Grant Margerman, Divine Lunga, Lyle Lakay, Ricardo Goss, Jody February, Keletso Makgalwa and Promise Mkhuma leaving the club on loan deals.
A mutual agreement on his departure or termination of contract must take place given the information that his deal only expires next year in June 2024, unless there is a PSL club willing to pay a transfer fee to acquire the speedy player’s services.
According to a close source, the club that is interested in him, where he might even turn up, is Supersport United, a team where he could reunite with former Bidvest Wits head coach Gavin Hunt.
The Limpopo-born player was part of Baroka FC when they reached the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup in 2011 and has also featured in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
